The summer is over and the air is cooler. our tans have faded and our skin is getting drier and drier by the week. AHHH what to do? Well, there are a few things you can try.
First thing—healthy skin starts on the inside by eating healthy foods. Do not overdo it on processed foods or sugary treats. Add in lots of vegetables and fruits that are high in antioxidants like: berries, bright colored veggies and white tea to name a few.
Next, you can wash all these things down with water. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate you and your skin! Your body needs lots of water to stay hydrated (especially after a couple cups of coffee) so pay attention to your thirst. Reach for water first.
I’m sure you have heard about those omega-3 fatty acids that are good for your skin. Well, your skin needs fatty acids for building and protecting healthy cell membranes and keeping the water and nutrients in while allowing toxins to pass out. there are a few types for you to add into your diet: olive oil, coconut oil, walnuts, salmon/fish, avocados, flax seeds.
There are also foods that help cleanse out those toxins. Introducing these foods into your diet helps remove cell waste and reduce inflammation which will keep your skin clear and radiant! Try adding in a few of them: lemon, garlic, ginger, dark leafy greens, chamomile.
One of my favorite things to do as my skin get drier is to use oils as a moisturizer. You can get organic coconut oil or sesame oil and warm a 1/4 cup on the stove and massage it into your skin before a shower or bed. I like doing before a shower because the steam from the shower helps absorb the oil into your skin. When covering bones with the heated oil do long strokes. When going over joints like your elbow, massage in a circular motion. Cover your whole body: face, neck, ears, legs, back…you get the idea. It will feel amazing and will completely help you get that healthy glow.
