Home is where the heart is —I may be the last one to the party on this one in understanding the depth of what this phrase can mean, but I don’t think so.
I think everyone equates this phrase with your home being where the people you love are or the home you love from growing up. It might be where your family is or a loved one. This phrase takes on new meaning when you move away from family and friends. I recently started thinking about this as I now live on the west coast and the family and friends I have had all my life are on the east coast. I started to question, where is my home?
Is it in Portland where I live? Because I do love it here. Or is it back east where all these other people and places are that I have strong connections to? I started to think maybe its in multiple places or nowhere at all.
After doing a meditation on this with a friend, what I came to learn is that I was searching for home outside of me. Trying to find that love of a place or person that feels like “home”.
But when you really think about it— where is your heart?
It is within you.
And therefore so is your home. Home is where YOUR heart is. Wherever you are, you can find home within yourself by just connecting into the heart space. It can be found with a friend, a place, an actual home, or just by sitting still and feeling the love in your heart. That is home.
